Practicing law since 1985, Taylor Porter Partner John Runnels serves as Chair of the firm's Intellectual Property practice. Prior to joining Taylor Porter in 1989, Mr. Runnels practiced with one of the nation’s leading patent firms in New York City. Mr. Runnels is engaged primarily in the practice of patent law, including chemical patent prosecution, biotech patent prosecution, patent licensing, university technology transfer, and related matters.

Mr. Runnels has a B.S. in chemistry from Louisiana State University and an M.S. in chemistry from California Institute of Technology.
Mr. Runnels is admitted to the bar in Louisiana, New York, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the Association of University Technology Managers.
