David M. Bienvenu, Jr., is a partner in our firm who has been practicing law for the past thirteen years. Prior to joining our firm, Mr. Bienvenu served as a law clerk to the Honorable Frank J. Polozola, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mr. Bienvenu has also served as an adjunct instructor in Appellate Advocacy at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University for the past eleven years.

Mr. Bienvenu practices in the area of general litigation with an emphasis on toxic tort, environmental and product liability litigation in both federal and state court. In the past several years, Mr. Bienvenu has defended Fortune 500 companies and other valued clients in litigation related to asbestos premises liability, silica premises liability, occupational hearing loss, groundwater contamination, product liability and toxic releases in the environment and workplace. Mr. Bienvenu’s area of expertise also extends to the creative defense of class action and other complex litigation as trial counsel and appellate counsel in cases as diverse as civil rights litigation, commercial disputes and insurance coverage disputes.

Mr. Bienvenu’s recent notable professional accomplishments include the following:

  • Participation as co-lead counsel in numerous class certification proceedings for Fortune 100 and other clients relating to civil rights litigation and alleged environmental releases and contamination;
  • Coordination and management of national product liability litigation for a Fortune 500 company;
  • The successful defense of a major chemical manufacturing company through jury trial and appeal of a premises liability claim by a plaintiff who asserted that the defendant’s negligence caused the development of malignant mesothelioma, a disease associated with asbestos exposure;
  • The successful and cost effective management of occupational disease premises liability litigation on behalf of clients who face the challenge of defending thousands of claims in Louisiana and other jurisdictions;
  • The coordination and development of expert testimony for clients in a multitude of challenging and complex cases that involve technical, medical and other scientific issues as well as the coordination of the litigation strategies to deal with opposing experts;
  • The successful defense of a Mississippi major chemical manufacturing company in a mass tort claim by former employees who claimed occupational hearing loss and neurological disorders related to alleged solvent exposure in the workplace.

Mr. Bienvenu was part of a Taylor Porter team selected as Preferred Counsel by a Fortune 100 Company. Fewer than twenty firms nationwide were chosen for this designation. This is a validation of our firm’s record of legal achievement, value and partnership with our client’s interests.

Mr. Bienvenu is licensed to practice in the state of Louisiana and in all federal courts in Louisiana and Mississippi as well as the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Bienvenu has participated in the representation of clients for litigation pending in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Illinois and Michigan. He graduated Order of the Coif from the LSU Law School in 1991 and is a published author in the Louisiana Law Review. He is a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. He was also selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®.
