John H. Runnels is a partner in our firm, where he has been practicing law since 1989. Prior to joining our firm, Mr. Runnels practiced with one of the nation’s leading patent firms in New York City. Mr. Runnels is engaged primarily in the practice of patent law, including patent prosecution, patent licensing, university technology transfer, and related matters. Prior to attending law school, he received a B.S. in chemistry from Louisiana State University and an M.S. in chemistry from California Institute of Technology. Mr. Runnels handles inventions across a wide variety of technical fields, including many early-stage inventions arising from university research.
Mr. Runnels is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, all Louisiana state and federal courts, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Runnels is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, the Association of University Technology Managers, and the American Chemical Society. In addition, he serves on the Board of the Runnels School.
