John Stewart Tharp’s practice emphasis is general defense litigation. He has successfully represented many local, regional, and national clients at the trial court and appellate court levels in matters of premises liability, product liability, toxic tort, insurance coverage and commercial litigation. 

Mr. Tharp is a 1990 graduate of Millsaps College and a 1994 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law.  Prior to joining Taylor Porter, he served as law clerk to the Honorable John V. Parker, United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. 

Mr. Tharp is admitted to practice as a member of the bar in both Mississippi (1994) and Louisiana (1996).  He is a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Mississippi Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. 

Mr. Tharp is active in matters of firm administration. He is a Big Buddy Program Volunteer and a member of the Kappa Alpha Order Alumni Advisory Board of Alpha Gamma Chapter.
