Tom Easterly’s practice is well-rounded with an emphasis on commercial disputes. Mr. Easterly's work involves construction, real estate, redhibition, insurance, toxic tort, workers' comp, and bankruptcy cases, which frequently have overlapping subject matter repercussions. His experience includes both commercial litigations and transactions on the local, state, and national levels. Mr. Easterly joined the firm in 2006. He is admitted to practice before all Louisiana Courts, State and Federal, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
A member of the Louisiana Law Review, Mr. Easterly earned his Juris Doctor from the LSU Law Center in 2006. He graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, where he earned his degree in finance. Mr. Easterly also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Louisiana State University with a specialization in business law.
Mr. Easterly is a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Louisiana Association for Justice (formerly the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association). He is also an avid sportsman. He contributes his time to Delta Waterfowl where he is the Sponsor Chairman on the Baton Rouge Committee. He also serves on the Committee for the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). Mr. Easterly is a founding member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association 2009 Legal Leaders and is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Baton Rouge City Club.
Tom and his wife, Lindsey, live in Baton Rouge.
Significant recent accomplishments include:
Trial counsel for The Dow Chemical Company in a two-week toxic tort trial arising from underground salt cavern storage wells, and in particular, defense of personal injury and emotional distress claims associated with the leaking salt cavern storage wells. The case concluded with The Dow Chemical Company paying $0 for the plaintiffs’ personal injury claims.
Lead counsel for an Atlanta-based general contractor in connection with enforcing subcontract claims and defending materialmen and laborer liens arising out of a dispute surrounding a 330 unit, 20 building apartment complex located in Baton Rouge. The case also involved representation before the Louisiana Contractors’ Licensing Board and the Contractors’ Licensing Law, La. R.S. 37:2150, et seq.
Lead defense counsel for GMAC Insurance Company and its underwriter National General Assurance Company in connection with automobile-related personal injury claims.
Lead trial counsel for Richard’s Honda in defense of a premises liability claim. The plaintiff’s case was dismissed, and the case concluded with Richard’s Honda paying $0.
Lead trial counsel for several West Baton Rouge Parish residents in a real estate lawsuit adverse to Union Pacific Railroad.
