Castille Helps Welcome Avery Johnson to Huntsville for Scholarship Event, Flood Fundraiser

September 26, 2016

Taylor Porter Partner Preston Castille, who serves as the National President of the Southern University Alumni Federation, helped welcome Alabama men's basketball head coach and Southern University alumnus Avery Johnson to Huntsville, Alabama, this past Friday for "A Salute to Avery Johnson Scholarship & Louisiana Flood Relief Fundraiser," held at SpringHill Suites Hotel Ballroom. The event was presented by The Southern University Alumni Federation - Huntsville Area Chapter, as Johnson served as guest speaker.

The event raised scholarship funds for Southern University and assisted those significantly impacted by last month's widespread area flooding in Baton Rouge. On Aug. 18, Johnson helped flood victims by renting and filling a semi-truck full of supplies to donate in Baton Rouge. During his career at Southern University, Johnson led the nation in assists per game in 1986-87 and in 1987-88. In 2013, Southern University named the floor of the F.G. Clark Activity Center the "Avery Johnson Court." Johnson also spent 16 years in the NBA and served as Head Coach of two teams.
