Easterly Co-Chairs “Love The Boot” Steering Committee for Keep Louisiana Beautiful

March 10, 2020

Taylor Porter Partner Tom Easterly is serving as a Co-Chairman of the 2020 Baton Rouge Steering Committee for Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s “Love The Boot” campaign, which is the first statewide fundraiser and civic pride campaign for Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s leading anti-litter and beautification organization that is focused on bringing people together to build and sustain vibrant, clean communities. Easterly and Brian Melancon of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center are Co-Chairs for the 2020 campaign.  Easterly also serves as a board member for Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

Through April 20-26, 2020, the campaign empowers residents, businesses, schools, organizations, and local and state governments to show their love for Louisiana by organizing or volunteering for beautification and little cleanup events throughout the week. With four goals of Create, Engage, Educate, and Make, there are daily activities and challenges throughout the week to promote activity across Louisiana. Interested participants can visit lovetheboot.org and register or find an event; plan or join a litter cleanup or beautification event; promote community support on social media with #LoveTheBoot; download helpful tools and resources at
lovetheboot.org; and report outcomes for statewide recognition. Love The Boot week’s activities will include:

  • MAKE A DIFFERENCE MONDAY (4/20/20): Choose reusable drink containers instead of single-use plastic ones. Post a video or photo of you and your reusable bottle with #LoveTheBoot.
  • TAKE-IN TUESDAY (4/21/20): Rather than getting take-out food with Styrofoam, plastic or throwaway containers, make dinner at home. Post a video or photo of your delicious home-cooked meal or recipe with #LoveTheBoot.
  • CLEAN WATER WEDNESDAY (4/22/20): Help reduce litter in our waterways by removing it from roadways. Post a video or photo of your litter cleanup with #LoveTheBoot.
  • THRIFTY THURSDAY (4/23/20): Use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags when shopping. Post a video or photo of your favorite reusable bag with #LoveTheBoot.
  • STRAW-FREE FRIDAY (4/24/20): If you don’t need a straw, don’t use one or use a plastic alternative one. Post a video or photo of your strawless drink with #LoveTheBoot.
  • STORM DRAIN SATURDAY (4/25/20): Litter and debris often are carried by wind or rain into storm drains, clogging them and causing street flooding. Post a video or photo of you cleaning out a storm drain with #LoveTheBoot.
  • SUSTAINABLE SUNDAY (4/26/20): An average American produces 4.6 lbs. of waste each day. Reduce your footprint by purchasing sustainable, reclaimed, or recycled items and clothing. Post a video or photo of you shopping sustainably with #LoveTheBoot.

Through a network of affiliates, businesses, schools, governments, and citizens, Keep Louisiana Beautiful provides programs, tools and resources to prevent litter, reduce waste, increase recycling, and protect and preserve the natural beauty of Louisiana. The mission is to promote personal, corporate, and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana. In 2019, several of Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s accomplishments included: 898,122 pounds of litter removed from roadways and 829,569 pounds of hazardous waste diverted from landfills; 71,151 volunteers and participants; 64,517 students receiving environmental education; 1,367 trees planted across Louisiana; and $120,000 in capacity building grants awarded to Louisiana communities. Keep Louisiana Beautiful is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2000 and has affiliates located in 39 communities throughout the state. The work of the organization is important as Louisiana is ranked as the 43rd most littered state in the U.S., and Louisiana’s recycling rate hovers around 6.2 percent compared to 34.6 percent nationally.
