Louisiana Artist’s “Path of the River” Runs Through Taylor Porter Office Space

May 25, 2016

Taylor Porter’s newly constructed 8th Floor, in the downtown Baton Rouge Chase North Tower, features Louisiana non-figurative artist Ken Tate’s “Path of the River” from Tate’s “The Deconstructed Series,” as part of the law firm’s comprehensive artwork plan with Ann Connelly Fine Art to help find creative and inventive ways to show off the law firm's new space, new conference rooms and highlight the work of various artists.

The piece was painted on Yupo paper (Japanese watercolor paper), and the process involved cutting up and re-arranging the pieces – deconstructed and then reconstructed in a completely unrecognizable, yet mysterious, arrangement. The impetus for Tate’s current work comes from the writings of Beats such as Kerouac and Ginsberg, the writing and short stories of Jorge Borges, the works of abstract expressionists Robert Motherwell, William de Kooning, John Chamberlain and David Smith, as well as the works of Robert Rauschenberg. Another influence is the art of cinema, especially in the framing and editing of film.

Tate’s paintings have been featured in magazines such as “House Beautiful,” “Traditional Home,” “Coastal Living,” and “New Orleans House & Home.”  His work is in private collections in New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, Tulsa, Nashville, Houston and Jackson, and in galleries such as Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge, Guthrie Contemporary in New Orleans, Exhibit by Aberson in Tulsa, Fischer Gallery in Jackson, and Dimmitt Contemporary in Houston.

In January 2016, Taylor Porter moved into its new space on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors of the Chase North Tower from the original Chase Building South Tower space. The new interior space features three floors of new offices, wireless and cable-ready conference rooms with big-screen presentation projectors, meeting rooms, kitchens, internal staircase, a large community board room, and an open-floor greeting area in the lobby. The interior project was designed by the architectural firm Coleman Partners Architects, LLC., which also provided the interior design services. The  artwork was curated by and purchased through Ann Connelly Fine Art who commissioned several custom pieces. Roof top gardens on the 8th floor river terrace were designed by Joseph Furr Design Studio Landscape Architecture. The outdoor space has allowed the firm to host outside events which capture the city’s best views of Capitol and the Mississippi River. The renovation includes sitting areas, wireless capable conference room and a putting green. The outdoor space, which was recently recognized with a Good Growth award by the Baton Rouge Growth Coalition, has been used for several client events, community organization meetings and employee gatherings. The general contractor was Cangelosi Ward.
