Louisiana Proposed Legislation to Ensure Insurance Coverage for COVID-19 Business Interruption

Louisiana is considering legislation that would require insurance companies to cover business interruption losses caused by COVID-19 despite policy language that an insurance company might try to rely on to argue COVID-19 losses are not covered. The Louisiana House and Senate have each put forth bills that would require insurance coverage for the business interruption losses caused by COVID-19.

The proposed bills are set forth below.

Louisiana joins a list of states considering legislation such as that described above.  These states include Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio.
