Lowe to Present Jury Selection Seminars for National Business Institute

November 16, 2016

Taylor Porter Partner Amy Lowe will lead two jury selection sessions at a National Business Institute Seminar on "Voir Dire and Jury Selection," to be held at Hyatt Place on Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lowe will lead, "The Law of Jury Selection," in which she will discuss key statutes and case law affecting jury selection; local rules and procedures to be aware of; and grounds for challenges for cause. Following the first session, Lowe will lead, "How Jurors Think: What Every Litigator Needs to Know," which will discuss how jurors learn - structuring your case theory; how jurors perceive attorneys - building rapport; how jurors determine credibility - preparing your witnesses for testimony; how jurors react to different demonstratives - turning exhibits/aids into persuasive tools; how to address damages - from both a plaintiff and defense perspective; preparing effective opening statements, closing arguments and jury instructions;  and how jurors deliberate and make the decision - giving them all the information they need.

Practicing law since 1997, Lowe has a litigation practice in various areas of law, including insurance defense, labor and employment, education law and appellate practice. She ranks among Best Lawyers in America (peer-voted) in Education Law for her work representing universities and high schools in labor and employment issues and insurance defense. In addition to Lowe’s litigation experience, she has a Master of Arts in Psychology (LSU, 1994). She has combined her expertise in these two areas by being frequently utilized as a jury consultant, assisting other litigators in jury selection, pre-trial research, and statistical analysis and serving as a litigation consultant in expert and lay witness preparation.
