Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School is currently looking for business partners to help continue the school's mission to provide students with skills needed to be successful in the work force, and Taylor Porter Managing Partner Skip Philips was interviewed this morning on WVLA, NBC Channel 33, to discuss the school's need.

Philips serves on the Cristo Rey Board, and also chairs the Corporate Work Study Program Board. Taylor Porter is a proud corporate partner of the Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School work study program.

Under the Cristo Rey model, each student spends one full day of their week working at a local office to supplement part of their tuition and pick up some real world career training. The school trains the students on basic soft skills — how to properly dress for work, interact with co-workers, conduct business over the phone and address clients — as well as hard skills such as printing, copying and filing. Then it matches each student up with a company. Each July, the school ceremoniously introduces students to their new employers at a “Draft Day” event.

Cristo Rey partners with more than 30 Capital Region businesses and nonprofits, all of which employ students one day per week. In addition to Taylor Porter, Cristo Rey corporate partners include: All Star Automotive Group, The Baton Rouge Clinic, Baton Rouge General, Cajun Industries, LLC, CSRS, East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office, Essential Federal Credit Union, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, Front Yard Bikes, GMFS, Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Company, Hispanic Apostolate of the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge, Innovative Emergency Management (IEM), Kean Miller, Lamar Advertising, Louisiana Association of Business & Industry (LABI), Louisiana Remote Sensing & Geographic Information Systems Institute (LARSGIS), Louisiana’s Community and Technical Colleges (LCTCS), Mid City Redevelopment Alliance, Neighbors Federal Credit Union, Office of the Mayor-President – City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge, Ochsner Hospital, Orion Instruments, Phelps Dunbar, Postlethwaite & Netterville, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, UpLIFTD, Vivid Ink Graphics, The Water Institute of the Gulf, and YMCA of the Capital Area. Corporate Work Study Program Underwriters include: Albemarle Corporation, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Capital Area Finance Authority, and Entergy Louisiana.
