Taylor Porter Among the 9,000 to Support 20th Annual Komen Race for the Cure

March 07, 2016

Taylor Porter partnered with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center to sponsor Baton Rouge's 20th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which took place Saturday, March 5, at the LSU Old Front Nine. More than 9,000 people attended the event to benefit local breast health education and breast cancer screenings and support cancer patients and their friends and families.

Through its high volume of participation, Taylor Porter placed first in the "Largest Team Competition in the Lawyers for the Cure Large Firm Category."

The race kicks off a 30-day fundraising period for Komen Baton Rouge, which hopes to raise $200,000 this year. About 75 percent of that money stays in the Baton Rouge area to pay for free screenings and educational programs, plus assistance with treatments and prescriptions for those battling the disease. The rest helps fund research.

Before the 1-mile fun run, 5K and 10K races started, hundreds of women and some men lined up for the Survivor’s Parade. They marched through the packed Old Front Nine carrying banners indicating how long it’s been since they’ve beaten cancer.

In the community, Taylor Porter attorneys and staff embrace the role of “corporate citizens” — and our firm understands that community stewardship requires an ongoing commitment from our entire firm. Whether serving on the boards of directors of nonprofit organizations or making contributions to worthwhile causes, our attorneys and staff make significant contributions to the communities in which they live and work.
