Taylor Porter Completes Community Service Trifecta for Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

January 22, 2016

Firm Collects 265 Pounds, Donates More Than $1,500, and Volunteers Sort More Than 6,000 Pounds of Food for Families in Need

Taylor Porter concluded its month long holiday food drive today by finishing with a collection of 265 pounds of food and donations totaling $1,530 for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and then several attorneys and staff volunteered on site for a three-hour shift this morning sorting food donations and assembling sorted items into food boxes, totaling 6,243 pounds of food for approximately 1,100 families in need.

“This was a great way for our employees to volunteer their time in the community and give back to such a worthy organization in need,” said Eddie Hughes, a Partner with Taylor Porter and also newly-elected board vice chair of the GBRFB. “When people, especially children and seniors in our community, are affected by hunger, we all feel the impact. In communities where hunger is a problem, education, unemployment, crime, and health care are all negatively affected.  We can help though, and that’s the reason for the Food Bank and this very important food drive.”

Taylor Porter’s volunteer day also coincided with the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service held earlier this week.

Taylor Porter volunteers included: attorneys Eddie Hughes, Lauren Rivera, Kiki Bergeron, Robin Toups, Mac Womack, Katia Bowman, Megan Bice, Ne’Shira Millender and Kelley Dick; and staff: Tommy Santora, Lynette Pourciau, Molly Longo, Connie Norton, Donna Montagino, Dale Gray and Diana Pryor.

The GBRFB supplies food to 156 agencies in the Baton Rouge area at no cost.  Through these agencies, the Food Bank supplies about 9.5 million meals to the hungry in the Baton Rouge area every year. The total need is around 21 million meals per year, making the gap 11.5 million meals.

Taylor Porter attorneys and staff embrace the role of “corporate citizens” — and our firm understands that community stewardship requires an ongoing commitment from our entire firm. Whether serving on the boards of directors of nonprofit organizations or making contributions to worthwhile causes, our attorneys and staff make significant contributions to the communities in which they live and work.
