Taylor Porter Holds Successful Collection Drive and Volunteer Day for Food Bank

July 24, 2017

Taylor Porter held its annual food drive collection and volunteer day for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as food drive collections totaled 460 pounds of donated food, and then on July 21, Taylor Porter had 22 volunteers travel to the Food Bank warehouse and work a two-hour shift in which employees packaged 11,000 pounds of water and sorted 1,300 pounds of food.

Taylor Porter volunteers included Eddie Hughes and his children Caroline and Bracey; Ted Laperouse and his children Lauren and Alex; Martha Singletary, Tommy Santora, Connie Norton, Dale Gray, Sheri Smith, Julie Dean, Donna Montagino, Lynette Pourciau, and Donna Maddie Jones; and summer law clerks – Hayden Bigby, Claire Caillier, Scott Courrege, Dakota Hawkins, Christine Colwell, Joseph Odom and Markeya Scott.

Taylor Porter Partner Eddie Hughes serves as the current Chair of the Food Bank’s Board.

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank – “Together We’re Fighting Hunger” - distributes approximately 250,000 pounds of food and other products (such as cleaning supplies and toiletries) a week. In the 11 parishes they serve, more than 135,000 people (or almost 16% of the population) are food insecure. Food insecurity means that an individual does not know where or when they will find their next meal. While donations of food and funds are needed year-round, they are especially helpful during the summer. Through donations to the Food Bank, their agencies are able to help provide programs to help meet the needs of low-income children, their families and seniors who face hunger.

Since Taylor Porter's founding in 1912 when co-founder B.B.
