Taylor Porter partnered with several Baton Rouge businesses and the U.S. Middle District Court of Louisiana to host a reception to toast the successes of the work release and re-entry program, called RISE: Rehabilitating Individuals through Strategic Encounters. The event was held on March 7 at the Taylor Porter River Terrace, atop the 8th floor of the Chase North Tower in downtown Baton Rouge. Partnering businesses included Turner Industries, Connections for Life (Transition Housing Re-Entry Programming Thrift Store), JCW, Franklin, Postlethwaite & Netterville, Parole Project, The Christian Outreach Center, BlueCrossBlueShield of Louisiana, and The Way to Work.

The reception was held prior to the event on March 8 in which Baton Rouge leaders gathered at L’Auberge for a lunch and panel discussion moderated by Georgetown professor and former federal inmate Shon Hopwood. Thanks to an initial private underwriting and supporting sponsorship by Connections for Life Transitional Housing and Thrift Store, the Hopwood Event opened an initial community dialogue focused on training, education and employment. Hopwood was recently profiled on CBS 60 Minutes and featured in multiple national publications.

Last February, U.S. District Court Judge Shelly Dick handed out certificates to the first graduating class of RISE. Judge Dick partnered with a team of dedicated Federal employees and volunteers to make this program a reality.
