Taylor Porter Partner Jim Ellis Named President of City Club of Baton Rouge

Taylor Porter Partner Jim Ellis has been named the 2017 President of the City Club of Baton Rouge, a downtown professional and social club that has enriched the lives of community leaders, business professionals, and families for nearly 60 years.

Ellis is the third attorney at Taylor Porter to be installed as President of the City Club, following Clayton Johnson in 1988, and one of the firm’s original founders, Charles Porter, in 1958, also the City Club’s first President.

Located downtown on the corner of 4th Street and North Boulevard, the City Club boasts 14 meeting rooms, a second floor private ballroom and veranda accommodating up to 550 people. The third floor has private dining, a bar and board room. In 2013, the club completed an extensive interior and exterior renovation as well as a 2,000-square foot addition featuring a banquet-style kitchen, a Garden room, and an outdoor Patio overlooking downtown Baton Rouge. 

At Taylor Porter, Ellis joined the firm in 1978, and practices in utility, energy, and other regulated companies on state and federal regulatory, corporate, merger and acquisitions, transactional, contract, and litigation matters. He has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in Energy Law for the last 15 years.

In the Baton Rouge community, Ellis is active in many civic and economic development organizations.  He was former General Counsel for the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (2005-2007) and served as Chairman of the Board of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber in 2008. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Ellis is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baton Rouge Airport Commission and served as Chairman of the Board of the Airport Commission. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for FuturePAC, the Manship Theatre, Cerebral Palsy Foundation, McMains Children’s Developmental Center, ReStore of Baton Rouge, and Evergreen Life Services.
