TP Attorneys Serve as Presenters, Speakers at Baton Rouge Bar’s Annual Conference

The annual "Bench Bar Conference," put on by the Baton Rouge Bar Association where attorneys and judges network, and attend CLE seminars on the latest trends and topics on professionalism and ethics, was held July 26-29, 2017, at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, and several Taylor Porter attorneys served as speakers and presenters at the event. This year's theme was "Reality TV" at the Bench Bar Conference.

Skip Philips teamed up with John Fenner, Vice President & Corporate General Counsel/Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at Turner Industries, to present, "Survivor: Professionalism." Philips and Fenner discussed the professional relationship between in-house counsel and outside counsel, and what issues both parties should consider in attorney-client relationships.

Mike Walsh presented on, "Digital is Forever, and the Internet Never Forgets." Walsh discussed some of the latest local and national cases that have been affected by social media postings on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, among others, and the impact of the digital media world on those court rulings. He also discussed ethical issues involving social media, including confidentiality, giving legal advice, and respect for the legal process, and the cautions for attorneys posting to social media, also with respect to protecting clients and their social media posts as well.

Katia Bowman served as a moderator for "Big Brother: Professionalism Goes to the Movies." Bowman was joined by panelists Judge James J. Brady, Magistrate Judge Erin Wilder-Doomes, Judge Carl Barbier, and Judge Jay Zainey.
