What practice area(s) are you most interested in and why?

I have a wide area of interests when it comes to practice areas, which is the reason I was drawn to Taylor Porter. Because I am not sure of which area I want to practice in yet, clerking here has been given me invaluable hands on experience. I have been able to do projects ranging from personal injuries to tax law.

How has the Taylor Porter summer law clerk program helped prepare you for becoming a lawyer?

The Taylor Porter clerk program has allowed me to take what I have learned in the classroom and apply it to real cases. I have improved my analytical, research, and writing skills in a way that can only be achieved through practical experience. Simply working in the professional atmosphere of Taylor Porter has prepared me for the day-to-day interactions that attorneys have with their clients and other attorneys.

Who are your Taylor Porter attorney mentors and what have you learned from them about the legal field that will stick with you?

My mentor was Megan Bice Barrett, who has taught me by example through her calm and professional demeanor. Her open door policy allowed me to ask questions, which she was always willing to answer. There are many legal issues that seem complex and intimidating to a 2L law clerk. Megan taught me to approach and analyze these issues step-by-step until doing so becomes second nature as a practicing attorney.

What do you like best about the TP Associate Program?

My favorite part of clerking at Taylor Porter is the great atmosphere. Every attorney here is incredibly knowledgeable and wants to help you succeed on whatever project you are working on. Clerking here has given me the experience of working as a practicing associate, but with a guiding hand. The attorneys have made me feel like a valued member of their team.
