Taylor Porter Hosts Boys & Girls Club for Breakfast, Field Trip to Old State Capitol

April 25, 2018

The Taylor Porter Diversity Committee selected Boys & Girls Club for its Spring 2018 Community Outreach and Service Project through the Firm’s BUILD (Building Unity, Inclusion, & Legal Diversity) program. On Saturday, April 21, our Firm hosted 15 students from the Magnolia Woods site to join us for a “Breakfast on the Terrace” with a meet and greet, and then a field trip to the Louisiana Old State Capitol.

The goal of the service project was for Taylor Porter attorneys to learn more about the Boys & Girls Club while mentoring with Club members. Meanwhile, Club members learned about Louisiana culture and history by visiting the museum, and also built meaningful relationships with Taylor Porter attorneys.

"All of these experiences touched on our core values at Boys & Girls Club - Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, along with Character and Citizenship," said Seresa Corbin, Director of Community Engagement with B&GC of Greater Baton Rouge. "Taylor Porter fulfilled our club mission as they gave their time and energy to these Club members to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

Taylor Porter Partner John McDermott serves as chairman of the board of governors and a trustee for Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge, while Erin Sayes Kenny is a board member, and our Firm has been a long supporter of this organization.

Taylor Porter volunteers included Katia Bowman (Taylor Porter Diversity Committee Chair), Kenny, Andrée Cullens, Caroline Darwin, Bob Barton, McDermott, Pat Seiter, Vicki Crochet, Debbie Lamb, and Anne Crochet.

Through the BUILD program, Taylor Porter provides assistance to several diverse community and nonprofits year-round, thereby affecting diverse segments of the community in a most positive and rewarding way.
