Michael Dufilho is engaged primarily in commercial transactions, including negotiating commercial leases, conducting title examinations, issuing title insurance policies, drafting loan and security documents, stock sale agreements, asset purchase agreements, and mergers.
Mr. Dufilho is a licensed title agent in the State of Louisiana, and Taylor Porter has a captive title insurance agency, Investors Title & Exchange Company.
He represents lenders and borrowers in commercial secured lending transactions related to direct loans and taxable and tax-free bond transactions, including acting as local counsel in multi-state transactions. Mr. Dufilho’s practice also involves Uniform Commercial Code issues and agricultural lending, as well as public utility and conservation servitudes, probate, and trust matters. Mr. Dufilho has performed extensive mineral title examination work. In addition, Mr. Dufilho has handled ad valorem tax assessment matters, including having property classified as exempt, and he has filed protests with local assessors both as to the value of the assessment and as to whether property is legally subject to being assessed and taxed.
A minor portion of Mr. Dufilho’s practice includes involvement in commercial litigation. He has also authored numerous appellate briefs and has successfully argued cases in the Louisiana appellate courts.
Mr. Dufilho is a member of the Louisiana Bankers Association and has been involved in drafting legislation involving various banking issues and agricultural lending practices. Mr. Dufilho is a member of the Louisiana State and the Baton Rouge Bar Associations and has lectured on secured lending practices.
Mr. Dufilho graduated, cum laude, from Louisiana State University in 1969 with a B.S., and he passed the CPA examination, receiving a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Dufilho graduated from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center Law in 1972, where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and the Order of the Coif. While at LSU, he was a member of ROTC, where he rose to the rank of Senior Colonel and Corps Commander, and he received his commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Army.

- Served as part of the team of Taylor Porter attorneys that restructured the operations of the statewide public hospital system into a public-private hospital model.
- Local counsel for a publicly traded gaming company related to major financing, including the issuance of title insurance policies.
- Examination of numerous mineral title abstracts and rendering mineral title opinions for a major international oil and gas company.
- Served as part of the team of Taylor Porter attorneys in the successful acquisition of a major public utility company.
