Amy Groves Lowe is a Partner at Taylor Porter, where she has a litigation practice in various areas of law, including insurance defense, labor and employment, education law, and administrative law.
Amy has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America in Education Law, Employment Law – Management, Labor Law – Management, for her work representing universities and high schools in labor and employment issues and insurance defense and Litigation – Insurance, for her work representing various insurers in areas including personal injury, contract disputes, constitutional claims, employment, and others. Amy was formerly selected by her peers as Litigation – Insurance “Lawyer of the Year” in Baton Rouge in Best Lawyers in America 2020 rankings. In addition to representing multiple insurance companies, Amy was selected to represent Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association (LIGA) in defending litigation related to Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Zeta, and Ida.
Amy has more than 20 years of experience in representing public agencies, public employees, and public officials in federal and state courts, in administrative hearings, and before the Louisiana State Legislature. She has served as general counsel of the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for over 15 years, general counsel for the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Nursing Facility Administrators and has represented numerous other public agencies such as the Louisiana Board of Ethics, the Louisiana State Board of Private Security Examiners and the Louisiana Board of Cosmetology. Amy has also served as an Administrative Law Judge for several state agencies in disciplinary hearings.
In addition to Amy’s litigation experience, she has a Master of Arts in Psychology from Louisiana State University. Amy has combined her expertise in these two areas by being frequently utilized as a jury consultant, assisting other litigators in jury selection, pre-trial research, and statistical analysis and serving as a litigation consultant in expert and lay witness preparation. In addition, Amy has conducted numerous CLEs and seminars on the issue of jury selection and effective and ethical presentation to juries and has been published in the Baton Rouge Bar Association journal on jury selection.
Amy has been named an Alumna of Distinction by her university, the LSU College of Human Sciences and Education, and her high school, University Laboratory School, and is a member of the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center Hall of Fame. In law school, Amy was the winner of the Tullis Moot Court Competition.
In 2005, Amy was named Baton Rouge Business Report’s “Forty Under 40” for her successes in her practice and her commitment to the Baton Rouge professional and community scene. Amy is an alumnus of the Baton Rouge Chamber Leadership class. Amy served as president of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and was selected as Sustainer of the Year in 2019.

- Selected to represent private association of insurance companies in defending hundreds of claims by insureds against insolvent companies following multiple hurricanes.
- Successfully defended the State of Louisiana from personal injury lawsuit seeking over $20 million in damages. 5-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court.
- Successfully defended an insurance company and insured from personal injury lawsuit seeking $3 million in damages. 3-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court.
- Successfully defended a state board against claim brought by member seeking damages and injunctive relief for claims of constitutional violations. 19th Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court.
- Successfully defended personal injury case against a high school brought by parents of minor child injured during physical education class. 6-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal and Louisiana Supreme Court.
- Successfully defended state in prisoner lawsuit based on constitutional violations while in prison. 2-day jury trial in United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.
- Selected jury for defendants who successfully defended claims in class action toxic tort case. 4-week jury trial in 22nd Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal.

- Successfully defended a university from sexual harassment claim brought by student against professor with student seeking millions of dollars. 5-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal and Louisiana Supreme Court.
- Successfully defended a university from wrongful termination claim brought by professor seeking reinstatement and damages. 4-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal and Louisiana Supreme Court.
- Successfully appealed adverse judgment of Civil District Court against university hospital for wrongful termination of employee. Appellate court agreed with employer that termination was lawful and negated damages award. Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
- Successfully defended university from gender discrimination claim brought by professor seeking reinstatement and damages. 5-day jury trial in 19th Judicial District Court, successful appeal to Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal.
Jury Consulting
- Selected jury for plaintiffs in class action case against employer who settled with defendants during trial for over $1.5 million in breach of fiduciary duty/fraud case.
- Selected jury for defendant in criminal indictment trial by United States Attorney’s Office which resulted in acquittal on all counts.
- Designed and developed a color-coding system to identify target jurors for criminal trial. This system is still being used by attorneys to select juries and avoid Batson challenges.
- Designed jury questionnaires and performed focus group research for defendant in class action litigation in which plaintiffs sued a chemical company following an explosion at their plant.
- Researched target jurors for civil and criminal litigation based on specific facts of the case.
- Advised attorneys on how to question prospective jurors on specific issues in their case.
- Worked with “shadow jurors” in evaluating progress of case during trial.
