
Intellectual Property Law
The Taylor Porter Intellectual Property team represents clients in copyright, trademark, trade secrets, trade dress, and other intellectual property matters, providing both transactional services and initiating or defending legal claims in both federal and state court litigation. Our IP team also provides registration services to register copyrights and trademarks for individual and corporate clients across various industries and provides guidance in negotiating and drafting complex commercial transactions involving the purchase, sale, or other license or transfer of intellectual property.
In addition to providing traditional intellectual property law services, the Taylor Porter Intellectual Property team also represents various clients in data security issues and data security incidents, including data breaches, ransomware attacks, and similar events involving the potential exposure of personal information, protected health information, educational records, and other sensitive data.
Representative Experience:
- Providing data security guidance and responding to data breaches and ransomware attacks.
- Prosecuting and defending copyright infringement cases and unfair trade practices cases.
- Negotiating Internet agreements for development, licensing, and linking and litigating domain name disputes, metatag abuse, and “cybersquatters.”
- Representing licensors and licensees in various software license agreements.
- Serving as lead counsel in trademark/cybersquatting case widely reported in the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, the National Law Journal, and various Internet media.
- Registering federal trademarks with the United States Patent & Trademark Office and copyright registrations with the United States Copyright Office for various works including computer source codes and user manuals, music and sound recordings, books, newspapers, screenplays, and architectural works.
